Graydon James &Laura Spink are the driving force behind Toronto-based indie folk-roots band The Young Novelists. Their first EP, a small town eulogy (Apr 2011), was hailed as “a work of unpretentious brilliance” by Exclaim! Magazine. They have since released two full-lengthalbums to further critical acclaim, working on their last album, in the year you were born (Sep 2012), with producer Chris Stringer (Timber Timbre, New Country Rehad, Ohbijou).
Their songs combine precise arrangements with layers of rich harmonies, capturing a classic combination of roots-inflected warmth and spacious dynamics. Graydon and Laura share lead vocal duties, sometimes on the same song, trading lyrics that tell complex stories about relationships, small towns, lost love, hope, redemption, forgiveness, and loss. Equally comfortable on a festival stage or playing a house concert, sharing stories or starting singalongs, they have played hundreds of shows and are finishing a new full-length album to be released this year.
